Magic create cap flexibility in trading away Tobias Harris

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Seven months after making him their highest-paid player, the Orlando Magic have traded away forward Tobias Harris. The Magic shipped Harris to the Detroit Pistons for Brandon Jennings and Eran Ilyosova, a pair of players who do not figure into the team’s long-term goals. The move, however, along with the possible trade of Channing Frye, is to free up cap space for the possible pursuit of free agents. Magic general manager Rob Hennigan said that the core of his team…

University of Florida football fans may have someone else to blame this fall. According to a report in gridironnow.com, incumbent quarterback Treon Harris is set to try his hand at wide receiver this fall. They ran them out of the Swamp in a 38-10 victory in which they completely dominated a team that figured to come in and win as easily as they had when they went to Tuscaloosa. After all, this was Ole Miss, a team that had scored more than 70 in…

Can Florida still trust Treon Harris to play quarterback?

in Sports by

If Treon Harris gained ground without playing, he has lost it. Harris may someday be the Florida Gators’ starting quarterback, but he may have never been further away from the job. It was one thing when Harris sat on the bench against Kentucky. Being suspended – allegedly for drugs – is worse. How can the Gators trust him after this? If he does become the starting quarterback, how is coach Jim Elwain ever going to completely believe there will not…

Gators’ backup quarterback Treon Harris suspended for drugs

in Sports/Top Headlines by

For now, the quarterback competition at the University of Florida is closed. Backup quarterback Treon Harris has been suspended after testing positive for drugs. Harris did not play against Kentucky, but coach Jim McElwain went out of his way to suggest that didn’t mean that Will Grier had won the quarterback competition. He pointed out shortcomings in Grier’s efforts, and talked about several situations where Harris might have played. That worked itself out, for the week at least, with Harris’…

Gators’ coach Jim McElwain continues to evaluate his quarterbacks

in Sports by

In the first drive of the night, Jim McElwain decided that his best bet was Will Grier. In the second drive of the night, a short drive following an interception, the best bet was Grier. In the fourth and fifth drives, when the Gators drove for 124 yards, scored a touchdown and missed a field goal, the best bet was Grier. He was the best bet for the drive after he threw an interception. He was the best bet after…
