Insurer files protest with state over HMO bids

A health and life insurance company has filed a protest with the Florida Department of Management Services, which recently rejected bids to provide HMO benefits to the state’s employees. Aetna Life Insurance Company hand-delivered a copy of the protest to the state earlier this month and posted a $3.1 million protest bond, according to a letter from the insurer’s attorneys, Foley & Lardner of Tallahassee. Florida physicians have friends in the Senate. The Senate Health Policy Committee took up and passed a priority bill for the Florida Medical Association over the strong objections of Associated Industries of Florida as well as the Florida Association of Health Plans. House panel kills bill to change Medicaid dental programs for children

On Tuesday, a Florida House panel killed a bill attempting to overhaul the Florida Medicaid program that provides dental care to children.
