After six months of political jockeying, litigation, and one-upsmanship Florida and the federal government have agreed in principle to $1.6 billion in supplemental Medicaid funds over the next two years. Remembering Durell Peaden, 69

Sen. Durell Peaden, a beloved and bemusing former lawmaker from the Panhandle known for his passion and savvy on health care issues, passed away this morning. He was 69. Peaden, known to intimates as “Doc,” had undergone double bypass surgery earlier this month and was in stable condition, resting in Pennsylvania afterward. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and three children. Peaden’s death was announced by his cousin and Senate successor Sen. Feds temporarily cut off LIP talks with state, Dudek says

The federal government has temporarily cut off Low Income Pool negotiations with Florida,  making it difficult for the Legislature to complete its budget and bring the regular legislative session to an end on time.
