House panel OKs balance billing ban, sponsor says unlikely to pass this year

in Uncategorized by

Health insurers and HMOs may have won the battle in a House healthcare committee on Thursday but they may end up losing the war this session. The House Health and Human Services Committee approved a bill that would ban nonparticipating providers from balance billing patients in need of emergency care under CS/HB 681. Additionally, the measure would place into law a reimbursement schedule for nonparticipating providers. But CS/HB 681 bill sponsor state Rep. Carlos Trujillo acknowledged that he didn’t think the…

CFO’s priority bill on out-of-network emergency care killed by Senate?

in Top Headlines by

A move to prevent doctors and hospitals from balance billing insured patients who go out-of-network for emergency services and care appears dead for the session. The Senate Banking and Insurance Committee temporarily passed the measure — SB 516 — at its meeting last week and the bill is not slated to be heard in the committee when it meets April 7. Indiana Gov. New poll says Floridians DO want Jeb Bush & Marco Rubio to realize their presidential ambitions

in Top Headlines by

Yesterday a Public Policy Polling survey showed that a majority of Floridians wanted neither Jeb Bush nor Marco Rubio to run for president in 2016. That was so yesterday. Literally. A new poll released this morning from St. Leo University shows quite the opposite — 63 percent of Floridians want Bush to run for president and 58 percent say they want Rubio to do so as well. A Bush/Rubio matchup shows the former governor besting the current U.S. senator, leading 39-30 percent. The poll contains plenty of…
