Charlie Crist approves measure to extend jobless benefits for 100,000

Gov. Charlie Crist on Monday signed a bill that is expected to give 100,000 jobless Floridians 14 more weeks of unemployment compensation. More than 140,000 people statewide have fallen off the unemployment insurance rolls during this recession before landing new jobs. Florida has a record number of unemployed: about 1.14 million based on a recent count that also showed record unemployment of 12.3 percent.
