Castro, from San Antonio, was U.S. secretary of Housing and Urban Development under former President Barack Obama. He also will participate in a fundraising event in Miami early next month for Gillum, mayor of Tallahassee, Gillum’s campaign announced. “Our nation is at its best when it matches hard work with real opportunity. GOP team addresses America Saturday

After frenzied, final decision-making, Donald Trump announced Indiana Gov. Mike Pence as his running mate Friday, adding an experienced politician with deep Washington connections to the Republican presidential ticket. Trump’s pick was aimed in part at easing some Republicans’ concerns about his temperament and lack of political experience. Pence spent 12 years in Congress before being elected governor and his demeanor is as calm as Trump’s is fiery. While some conservatives are skeptical of Trump’s political leanings, Pence has been…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The Obama administration’s goal to eliminate homelessness among military veterans by the end of the year could be a difficult mission as tens of thousands of vets remain on the streets, including perhaps 3,000 in Florida. But he said things could be worse. “At least they’re not calling me the Adolf Hitler of the Democratic Senate race. They haven’t quite gone there yet. It’s only a matter of time before they…

All calm as Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton supporters gather in Florida

in 2017/Top Headlines by

There’s nothing like a common enemy to help Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders supporters come together in harmony, as was the case Saturday as the Florida Democratic Party rallied against Donald Trump, the likely Republican nominee who at one point was compared to an alligator running loose in a fast food restaurant. Democrats backing each of the party’s presidential candidates sat side-by-side with no drama, pleasantly chatting about issues and the election while the party chose its final delegates to…

Mitch Perry Report for 5.17.16 – Elizabeth Warren for VP momentum grows

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Democrats in Kentucky and Oregon go to the polls tonight, and all indications are Bernie Sanders will win at least one those two contests. Not that it will make much of a dent in Hillary Clinton‘s delegate lead. The way the party apportions delegates, he’s simply not going to be able to catch up by next month in pledged delegates to overcome her lead. Tensions continue to grow within the two camps, especially with Sanders supporters after the chaos that ensued…
