Kevin Beckner adds to his fundraising totals in Hillsborough court clerk race

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Fundraising totals for February are in for the candidates running for the Hillsborough Clerk of the Court seat currently held by Democrat Pat Frank. The 85-year-old icon in Hillsborough Democratic politics is facing a challenge within her own party for re-election this year from Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin Beckner, 44. Beckner brought in $9,620 in February, while Frank took in $3,850. Republican Eric Seidel raised $$4,050. To date, Beckner has raised $167,936. Frank has raised $106,574. Seidel, the former Fox 13…

Anti-TBX citizens protest in V.M. Ybor

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

For the second consecutive month, citizens who oppose the Tampa Bay Express marched through a Tampa neighborhood on Saturday, a neighborhood that could be severely impacted if the transportation project comes to fruition. A crowd of approximately 80 or so citizens met in the V.M. Ybor neighborhood to protest against the proposed $3.3 billion project, which would add tolled express lanes to I-275 in Tampa, as well as parts of I-4 and I-75. The issue has roiled the Seminole Heights, Tampa Heights…

Mitch Perry Report for 2.26.16 – New survey shows that Florida Dems aren’t feeling the Bern

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Although many pundits are pontificating that Marco Rubio‘s pummeling of Donald Trump in last night’s CNN/Telemundo/Salem Radio debate from Houston was entertaining, they still contend that it’s not going to matter on Super Tuesday or the subsequent elections to follow. We’re not so certain about that. If anything, Rubio’s “kitchen sink” opposition research dump against the New York City business mogul surely had to give second thoughts to the strongest Trump supporters out there, right? Trump was flustered in a way that he hasn’t…

Kevin Becker defends his alternative plan for transit and infrastructure in Hillsborough County

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Although Kevin Beckner’s alternative plan to fund transit and transportation projects in Hillsborough County was met with derision by some of his colleagues upon his unveiling it at a budget workshop this week, he is unrepentant, believing that the current Go Hillsborough plan as currently constituted is unlikely to pass this fall. “Contrary to what some may say, this plan does not undermine the vision that the mayor or any other leader wants to accomplish for the city or our county,”…

John Dicks leads all Hillsborough County Commission District 6 candidates in January fundraising

in 2017/Top Headlines by

In his first month of fundraising after announcing his candidacy, former Plant City Mayor John Dicks raised $10,882 in January in his bid for the Hillsborough County Commission District 6 race. Nearly half of that total – $5,000 – came from Dicks himself. Dicks entered the contest on Jan. 18, becoming the fourth Democrat to compete for the open county commission seat that will be vacated later this year by a term-limited Kevin Beckner. Tampa lawyer Brian Willis raised the…

Mitch Perry Report for 2.11.16 – Carly and Chris bid adieu to the circus

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina have suspended their presidential campaigns. This reporter had the chance to see the New Jersey governor (yes, that is the day job he’s pretty much blown off for months) a week ago in Keene, N.H. The fun part about that was how intimate it was: It was a small crowd (maybe too small, an indication of how he was going to perform on Tuesday), but other than a few opening remarks, the 90-minute event was all about him…

Kevin Beckner raises tenfold what Pat Frank does in January for Hillsborough Court Clerk contest

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Kevin Beckner raised over $9,100 in January for his bid for the Clerk of the Circuit Court in Hillsborough County. That’s 10 times the amount that Democratic party incumbent Pat Frank raised last month, which was $905. Beckner, 44, the Hillsborough County Commissioner who upset some Democrats last spring when he announced he would be challenging the 85-year-old Frank, also has a significant advantage regarding cash on hand in their campaign. Beckner has $128,626 on hand. Frank has $65,842. The Republican…
