Monday’s St. Petersburg Times reminds me why I relented and signed up for a subscription. What’s not must-read: Ernest Hooper’s Monday column continues to disappoint.  It’s not that Hooper writes anything provoking or ridiculous.  It’s that, with the real-estate granted to Hooper, his column should just explode…

The only thing better than if the courtroom in which the St. Petersburg Times is squaring off against the City of St. Petersburg today over the city’s ban on street-side solicitations collapses, would be if Media General joined the lawsuit and the courtroom collapses with their lawyers in it as well. That is a possibility, albeit far-removed, now that Media General, the parent company of the Tampa Tribune, filed a motion in federal court Wednesday to support the Times Publishing Company’s attempt to halt…

First question: Ernest, are we gonna re-schedule? — She’s baaaccckkk.  Saint Petersblog nemesis Cristina Silva as returned from a four-month stint in Tallahassee.  The former City Hall reporter tweeted yesterday: @cristymsilva: back in St. Petersburg after nearly four months. What did I miss? Silva actually has an interesting PolitiFact piece answering the important question of whether that’s Barack Obama in the Whoomp! video. Because all black people look alike to the Tea Party racists who first concocted this rumor. Talk about getting…

I enjoyed a dirty martini at St. Pete Brasserie late last night and had the opportunity to speak with George Rahdert, the St. Petersburg Times lawyer on 1st Amendment issues.  Talking about the City of St. Petersburg ban on street-side solicitations, I told him, “Give ’em hell, George!” Well, reading today’s Declaration of War by Times Publishing Co. on the City of St. Petersburg, Hell may seem like a pleasant alternative to where this case will end up. As I’ve said before,…
