Group protests Times’ suit against city ***Updated with photos from protest***

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Some are upset about a recent lawsuit opposing the city’s recent ban on street solicitation. About 35 people waved signs in front of the St. Petersburg Times building Sunday to protest the suit filed by the paper’s parent company against the city of St. Petersburg. “I just don’t appreciate the Times suing the city for a valid ordinance,” said Jeremiah Rohr, 56, who held a sign saying “Drop the suit or Drop the Times.” The group congregated between 10 and 11 a.m.…

in The Bay and the 'Burg by

Looks like Jim Longstreth is organizing a protest of the St. Petersburg Times‘ lawsuit against the City of St. Petersburg over the solicitation ban is planned for this Sunday.  From the Facebook page: This is a peaceful protest against the St. Pete Times regarding the ridiculous lawsuit against the city of St. Petersburg regarding the new ban on street solicitation. Charlie Crist appoints Jim Smith, former BP lobbyist, for lawsuits against BP

in Statewide by

Great story from Beach Peanuts that has yet to bubble to the mainstream media. While we sit here in Florida waiting for the oil that may come ashore along with the dispersant BP keeps spraying in spite of the EPA, we’re supposed to believe that Gov. Charlie Crist is doing everything possible for our state, or at least that’s what Charlie would have us believe. So naturally you would think that the appointment of two former attorney generals to begin…

Talking Heads’ David Byrne talks about why he is suing Charlie Crist

in Statewide by

David Byrne explains in his blog why he is bringing a lawsuit against the Governor of Florida. A while back a friend told me that the Republican Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist, was using the Talking Heads song “Road to Nowhere” in a campaign ad. He’s running for Senate. Well, using a recording of a song, or even just using that song and not the original recording, in an advertisement without permission is illegal, unless the composition has gone into the…

Jim Greer’s rise in Florida GOP was as stunning as his fall

in Statewide by

From the Orlando Sentinel: Jim Greer loved to throw parties at his big, fancy home here, and he did it often. Sometimes he would literally roll out a red carpet. Guests arrived in tuxedos. Later, in the backyard, in front of a rock band, Greer would grab a microphone and belt out a few Elvis tunes. His guests would include neighbors and GOP donors, but most importantly Charlie Crist, the man who handpicked him to run the Republican Party of…

Jim Greer: Endorsement of Charlie Crist led to ‘character assassination’

in Statewide by

Reading over the six-page lawsuit filed by Jim Greer yesterday, it says that RPOF leaders, including Thrasher, reneged on a deal that would have paid Greer a severance package of $11,250-a-month for 11 months, plus health insurance (Republicans sure are insistent about getting their own health care taken care of!), to resign his post earlier this year. He also wants damages from the party and from Thrasher (who doesn’t?) More important, the lawsuit also includes Greer’s explanation for why party leaders…
