Gators, ‘Canes on the way up, FSU headed down in AP Top 25

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The top two teams in the AP Top 25 football poll remained the same this week, but Florida teams were on the move. Only two of those teams are moving in the right direction. Alabama and Ohio State kept their No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively, but entering the Top 10 are the Miami Hurricanes. Miami climbed four spots from last week after their impressive win at Georgia Tech. The Florida Gators, despite a less-than-awe-inspiring win over Vanderbilt, claimed the No.…

Luke Del Rio returns to Gators’ practice

in Sports by

From the despair of the loss to Tennessee Saturday, the Florida Gators received some good news: starting quarterback Luke Del Rio returned to practice Wednesday. That does not mean he will play in Saturday’s game at Vanderbilt. Indeed, he is listed as “highly doubtful,” but Coach Jim McElwain said he is not “counting him out.” Del Rio’s participation will be limited to throwing to receivers on certain pass routes. He will not be involved in all that goes with practicing with…

Tennessee roars back to end losing streak vs. Gators

More than 100,000 Tennessee fans were loudly and proudly singing Rocky Top after their 38-28 comeback win against the Florida Gators on Saturday. The Florida Gators blitzed the North Florida Mean Green, 32-0. Those wins were enough to see both schools move up in the Associated Press Top 25…

Will Grier transfers from Florida to West Virginia

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Former Florida Gator quarterback Will Grier has transferred to West Virginia University. He’s under a 12-month suspension for taking a banned substance. Grier was a major reason the Gators got off to a 6-0 start in the 2015 season. He threw for 1,204 yards and 10 touchdowns with only three interceptions before he failed a drug test in October. The Gator offense struggled mightily thereafter, managing to split their final eight games, 4-4. They lost their final three games by…
