POLITICO says it’s coming to Tallahassee

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

The Washington, D.C.-based political website POLITICO began in 2007 with 35 employees. It now maintains more than 400 staffers globally. Among the most notable hires for political junkies in Florida was when the site raided Marc Caputo from the Miami Herald back in January. Now POLITICO says Caputo will be joined by a “team of political and policy writers in Tallahassee.” The news was released via an email from President and CEO Jim VandeHei to the POLITICO staff Wednesday morning. He said that…

A quick suggestion for Marco Rubio …

in Top Headlines by

According to Marc Caputo of POLITICO, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio is trying to unload the Tallahassee home he co-owns with David Rivera, the former congressman under investigation in a federal campaign-finance probe. Democrats are having a field day with this story, with the Florida Democratic Party going so far as to post a mock-ad on Craig’s List listing the home for sale. Here’s a suggestion for Rubio, who has to understand he cannot run for president of the United States…

Rick Scott says climate change gag policy not true, Dems continue to bash

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Gov. Rick Scott is denying there was a policy banning the use of the term climate change at the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as Democrats Tuesday continued to hammer him on the issue. BP swiftly signed up experts who would otherwise work for plaintiffs, shopped for top-notch legal teams and presented volunteers, fishermen and potential workers with waivers, hoping they would sign away some of their right to sue.…

Red State claims coverage of RPOF scandal a ‘political hitjob’ on Marco Rubio

in Statewide by

When it comes to “Checks and Balances” in Florida’s print media, it is increasingly apparent that there is none. In a coordinated attack piece, orchestrated by someone who had access to the Republican Party of Florida’s (RPOF) credit card records, (and for the life of me, I can’t imagine it is from anyone who currently has access), major dailies from the Panhandle all the way down to Miami have printed the same story of credit card spending by the RPOF,…

Times: The secret severance offered to Jim Greer

in Statewide by

I really hate to copy an entire article, but John Frank does a masterful job laying out all of the details concerning the severance package offered to Jim Greer.  With apologies, here is his work: The state Republican Party is denying the severance agreement (download here) with Jim Greer is valid, saying the former chairman didn’t sign the documents. Greer’s attorney contends otherwise in a letter to the party written Tuesday (download). But what is lost is the fact the…
