Mitch Perry Report for 5.16.16 – Carlos Beruff is NOT apologizing regarding Obama remark

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Carlos Beruff made some news yesterday, but despite his aggressive response, it can’t be marked up as a good day for the Republican candidate for Senate. The Manatee County developer prides himself on not being politically correct, and he’s not absolutelyĀ notĀ apologizing after theĀ Huffington PostĀ reported over the weekend (with video) of Beruff calling President Obama “an animal” in a speech last week in St. John’s County. “Unfortunately, for seven and a half years this animal we call president, because he’s an…

Gov. July fundraising numbers are in, though none of the big-ticket Senate races for 2016 got much action, and with the Special Session on Redistricting, it should stay that way for sitting lawmakers duringĀ the back half of August. in Statewide/Top Headlines by

As of June, none of the 12 Florida senators running for re-election is facing much of a challenge — Democratic state Sen. Jeff Clemens is the only incumbent to draw an opponent so far, but it won’t derail him from another term. District 29 looks set as well, with Democratic state Rep. Jim Waldman having a clear path to take over for outgoing state Sen. Jeremy Ring. The other open seats – Districts 1, 5, 13, 19, 23 and 31…

Lawmakers building a veto-proof healthcare budget

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Florida’s legislative leaders are trying to make the healthcare financing decisions they made during the June special session veto-proof. The Florida House and Senate were at odds throughout the 2015 regular legislative session on health care spending and policy. Indeed, the inability to agree on how much additional Medicaid funding to include the budget was the reason the chamber’s didn’t pass a budget on time. But that was then and this is now. House and Senate leaders not only agreed…
