I realize there has been a lot of discussion about the possibility of County Commissioner Ken Welch entering the race for Mayor of St. Petersburg, but there is still an 800- pound gorilla out there: Rick Kriseman. If Representative Kriseman runs, Welch has stated he would not run — and vice-versa. I think there are significant factors that would influence a Kriseman run, geography and timing. Dunedin races off to a quick start

Jim Sebesta is NOT in the Mayor’s race

There was a mention on the Times’ Bay Buzz blog that former Senator Jim Sebesta had picked up the candidacy paperwork to run for Mayor of St. Pete. I was just on the phone with the city clerk’s office and they state that he has not, repeat has not, picked up the candidacy paperwork. For the record, the residents that have done so are: Deveron Gibbons, Paul Congemy, Sharon Russ and Michael Santo.

Taxpayers to foot $85 million bill for Tampa’s GOP bid

Hosting the 2008 Republican National Convention here would cost taxpayers about $85-million, event organizers said Monday. That’s roughly two-thirds of the estimated total cost of $124-million, according to the bid package a Tampa delegation presented to the Republican National Committee in May.
