Hospital taxing districts could face penalties if they can’t settle claims in 60 days under House bill

Health care has been extremely partisan in the Legislature these days but there was an unusual bipartisan concern expressed over a bill that would limit a taxing district’s authority to levy ad valorem taxes if they have too many outstanding unpaid claims. The bill cleared the committee but Republicans and Democrats both expressed concerns that the measure, HB 7115, is punitive to hospital taxing districts, whether they are independent districts or  dependent districts. House OKs telehealth bill but controversial reimbursement issue is looming

A House healthcare panel approved a telehealth bill on Thursday but there were warnings that the measure isn’t “floor ready.” The reason? The bill, HB 545, has no requirement that government or third parties reimburse doctors and healthcare providers for rendering telehealth services. “I’m concerned the bill says nothing about reimbursement and holds no third party (accountable),” House Health Quality Subcommittee member Julio Gonzalez, an orthopedic surgeon said, adding, “I will tell you, I don’t think it’s ready for the Floor.”…
