Dan Gelber the Legislator vs. Dan Gelber the Candidate

in Statewide by

Dan Gelber is everything a progressive Democrat could want in a candidate.  Ideologically, Senator Gelber has a proven track record of fighting for causes important to both liberal and moderate wings of the party.  Personally, the man is simply impressive, with a distinguished resume and a dignified, but welcoming disposition that just radiates a sense of gravitas. I had the opportunity to speak with Senator Gelber last Thursday when he was in St. Petersburg and I immediately remembered why we…

Crist also just signed a new state budget raising the cigarette tax and various fees by $2 billion, an act that further fueled conservative anger. Even worse, the moderate…

Red County follows up against Charlie Crist

in Statewide by

From Red County: Being a man of my word, here is the follow up to “Charlie Crist runs for cover.”  Let’s talk about the Barack Hussein Obama’s “porkulus” package. It is being reported here on Redcounty.com that former Governor Jeb Bush accepted billions of federal dollars more than Governor Crist has just accepted. This is true. But ask yourself? What was the state of our economy at the time? Governor Bush accepted the funds during a period of prosperity, and…

Should Democrats Be Rooting for Charlie Crist?

in Statewide by

From Nate Silver: Florida Governor Charlie Crist will reportedly announce tomorrow that he is running for the United States Senate. At first glance this move — which would have surprised until we began to hear credible chatter about it from Republican insiders earlier this month — would seem like a real recruiting coup for the GOP. In contrast to most governors, Crist retains strong approval ratings; he is well ahead, moreover, of prospective Democratic opponents in early horse race polling.…
