Young ‘Moonlight’ stars return from Oscars to middle school

in Apolitical/Top Headlines by

Seventh-graders Alex Hibbert and Jaden Piner returned to middle school Wednesday as Oscar winners, but the “Moonlight” stars still had to go back to basics with their classmates in drama class. At Norland Middle School, they followed acting teacher Tanisha Cidel‘s directions to crawl on the floor like lions and recite the tongue-twister “red leather, yellow leather” faster and faster. Cidel played a principal in the film that also won Oscars for best supporting actor and best adapted screenplay. “The…

Mitch Perry’s Top Ten films, books and music events of the year

in Apolitical/Top Headlines by

Self indulgence warning. As I’ve been doing since my first year with Creative Loafing (2009), I’ve assembled a top ten list of my favorite movies, music and books of the year. When it comes to movies, I remain a stalwart in seeing moving pictures on the big screen. Living within a couple of movie houses helps considerably, but it also hurts — I’ve seen far too many terrible comedies on some weekends because I just wanted to get out of the house – regretting…
