Joe Henderson: Democrats may finally get the message that they need, well, a message

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Florida Democrats have become such a non-factor in state politics that the real drama frequently becomes which faction of the Republican party will prevail on a given issue. Think about it. We have had knockdown, drag-outs between the GOP-controlled House and Senate. This year the main event has been the ongoing feud between Republican Gov. Rick Scott and House Speaker Richard Corcoran. It’s almost like Democrats don’t exist. Republicans have long had a consistent message of tough on crime, lower…

On Monday, Broward County Democratic state Sen. Gary Farmer, Jr. filed a bill that would tighten requirements on safely storing loaded firearms. Senate Bill 142 “[revises] the locations and circumstances in which a loaded firearm is required to be kept or secured with a trigger lock … [deleting] provisions relating to conditions for committing the crime of failing to safely store, leave, or secure a loaded firearm in a specified manner.” Among the “locations and circumstances” revised: storage of a firearm around…

Joe Henderson: Despite opposition, ‘campus carry’ returns

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

Remember that measure some Republicans in the Legislature have tried to pass the last couple of years to allow guns on college campuses? First, Farmer accused Waldman of earning an “A” rating. Waldman then fired back, calling it a lie…

Dick Kravitz lies (again) about NRA rating, as HD 16 race gets nastier

in Statewide/Top Headlines by

A new flyer from Republican Dick Kravitz offers House District 16 voters a laundry list of “accomplishments.” Among them, the former Jacksonville City Councilman and state representative claims he received an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association. One problem; it’s a boldface lie. “Dick Kravitz DOES NOT have an A+ rating from NRA,” writes Marion Hammer, past NRA president and executive director of Unified Sportsmen of Florida. In an email obtained by FloridaPolitics.com, Hammer says the ratings were posted…
