Former Lightning Coach John Tortorella poised to make history

in Sports by

Tampa Bay Lightning fans will remember John Tortorella. In 2004, he coached the Lightning to their one and only Stanley Cup, defeating the Calgary Flames, four games to three. Trailing three games to two, Tampa Bay won Game 6 on the road and Game 7 at what was then the St. Pete Times Forum. Calling the games for ABC was Sarasota resident Gary Thorne, Bill Clement and John Davidson. Davidson and Tortorella would join forces in Columbus, Ohio a decade…

Confident Lightning feel Penguins haven’t see their best

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The Tampa Bay Lightning are back home after splitting the first two games of the Eastern Conference finals, feeling good about themselves, though hardly satisfied. “We’ve got to play better to win this series, there’s no doubt,” coach Jon Cooper said Tuesday, adding the team has yet to “put our best foot forward” against the Pittsburgh Penguins. “I think now that we’ve played them two times, we know a little bit more what to expect,” Cooper added. “But I know…

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Hall of Famer Joe Morgan knows that for more than a century, baseball players have policed themselves. Like it or not. Happy Memorial Day Weekend to you all, which by the way is the earliest we can ever have such a holiday, with this Monday only being the 25th of May. Incidentally, Labor Day will take place as late as it can be this year (September 7), which will actually be a factor in delaying the NFL season by a week, meaning the regular season won’t end until next January. If one of the prerequisites for being a politician is engaging in a…

Rangers victory means ‘Disney on Ice: Frozen’ is on for Tampa

in Apolitical/Top Headlines by

Some moms and little girls in Florida are thanking the New York Rangers. The top-seeded Rangers won Game 7 of the NHL semifinals in New York Wednesday night, meaning that a “Disney on Ice: Frozen” will go on as planned in Tampa this weekend. Had the Washington Capitals beaten the Rangers, they would’ve faced the Tampa Bay Lightning in game one of the NHL Eastern Conference finals in Tampa on Saturday, bumping the Disney show. The Lightning will now play…
