in Apolitical/Top Headlines by

Mark McKinnon is a man of many hats. Cowboy hats, that is, which is his signature look. He’s done a lot of things in his life, but he’ll probably always be best known for his association as an ad man for George W. Bush‘s presidential campaigns. He’s also the co-creator, co-executive producer and co-host of “The Circus,” a weekly Showtime documentary series on the presidential campaign. The show is a co-production between Showtime and Bloomberg Politics. FloridaPolitics.com spoke with McKinnon last week from Columbus,…

Mitch Perry Report for 3.14.16 – The circus return to Tampa

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Welcome to the first working day of Daylight Saving Time, a/k/a the crankiest Monday morning of the year. Welcome to the return of true humidity to the Sunshine State, and welcome back to Donald Trump, who brings his campaign to Tampa this afternoon for a “town hall” event at the Convention Center. Note that it’s not a rally. Theoretically, in a town-hall, the public gets to ask questions. I’ve not seen that happen in the four previous Trump events on…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Nikki Haley says she’s seen what Donald Trump rallies have become of late, and surmised that accepting him as the GOP presidential nominee goes against what the party of Lincoln is all about. “I’m watching a presidential candidate who at his rally is saying, ‘punch him. He should be taken out on a stretcher. Do it again’,” she said on Saturday night in St. Petersburg. “That’s not us. That’s not Republicans. That’s not Americans. That’s not who we are. We’re better…

The Florida House of Representatives overwhelmingly voted on Wednesday to remove and replace a statue of Confederate Army General Edmund Kirby Smith in the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall. The vote was 83-32. The move to take down Smith’s statue began in earnest last summer, after South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley took down the Confederate flag from its State House grounds, opening up the discussion about Confederate symbols. Haley’s move occurred after a white gunman killed 9 black churchgoers in Charleston, South Carolina. It was later revealed…

It’s a drastic shift from the approach he took at the start of his campaign hinting at how precarious his fortunes have become. Now, with his back to the wall, Bush is grabbing hold…

Mitch Perry Report for 2.19.16 – Crunch time for Marco and Jeb in the Palmetto State

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The Jeb Bush campaign furiously pushed back on a report by blogger Eric Erickson yesterday that staffers will stop being paid after tomorrow. Citing “sources close to the Bush campaign,” Erickson wrote that there was a phone call on Wednesday night in which the news leaked out that the Bush campaign was out of cash. That’s according to The Hill. The Bush team says it’s B.S.. The bigger issue is that the Bush campaign is in such dire straights that it’s…
