Despite vow to ‘take on’ gun lobby, Gary Farmer earns an A+ rating from NRA. How?

in Peter/Top Headlines by

Many tidbits come across my desk, but this one jumped off my screen: Gary Farmer was just “awarded” an A+ rating by … wait for it … the National Rifle Association. If that doesn’t shock you, allow me to explain. During a very heated Democratic primary battle versus Jim Waldman in Senate District 34, the NRA’s scorecards became a yuuuge issue in the race. First, Farmer accused Waldman of earning an “A” rating. Waldman then fired back, calling it a lie…

in 2017 by

Patrick Murphy is being attacked for defending Hillary Clinton’s role in Benghazi in a new television ad now airing in Jacksonville, Panama City, and Pensacola. The ad features Mark “Oz” Geist, a retired Marine involved in the Sept. 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. compound in Benghazi that led to the deaths four Americans, including Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya. “Hillary Clinton’s State Department denied requests for more security,” Geist says in the ad. “Then she lied to protect herself.”…

Mitch Perry Report for 8.17.16 – Impeachment memories

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Before Barack Obama was elected, a lot of political observers said that with such a divided nation, every president could face the potential of being impeached. I’m reminded of that today on the 18th year anniversary of Bill Clinton giving a prime-time address to the nation after seven months of silence on the Monica Lewinsky matter. “I know that my public comments and my silence about this matter gave a false impression. I misled people, including even my wife,” he said…

A new flyer from Republican Dick Kravitz offers House District 16 voters a laundry list of “accomplishments.” Among them, the former Jacksonville City Councilman and state representative claims he received an A+ rating from the National Rifle Association. One problem; it’s a boldface lie. “Dick Kravitz DOES NOT have an A+ rating from NRA,” writes Marion Hammer, past NRA president and executive director of Unified Sportsmen of Florida. In an email obtained by FloridaPolitics.com, Hammer says the ratings were posted…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Well, so much for the free flow of ideas inside the Florida Democratic Party. Patrick Murphy announced yesterday he would not engage in any debates with Alan Grayson or Pam Keith in advance of the Aug. 30 Senate primary election, citing allegations of domestic abuse charged by Grayson’s ex-wife last week. “Over the last week, I have heard from many people, including survivors of domestic abuse, that Alan Grayson’s continued presence in this race is an insult to the countless Floridians whose lives have been…

NRA sends out mailer calling on voters to support Darryl Rouson in SD 19 race

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

(Updated) The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund has sent out a mailer urging voters to support Darryl Rouson in the Florida Senate District 19 Democratic primary election later this month. The powerful gun lobbying group gives the St. Petersburg House Democrat a “C” grade in the primary election. That’s obviously better than the “F” grades it gives two of Rouson’s opponent in the race, House District 59 Representative Ed Narain and former state Representative Betty Reed. The NRA lists a question mark next to the fourth…
