State insurance regulators approve coastal property rate hikes

The Office of Insurance Regulation approved new Citizens Property Insurance Corp. rates Tuesday that will increase costs for about 40 percent of policyholders when they take effect in February 2016. Under the approved rates the average premium for miltiperil policies will rise to $2,381 a year, up from the $2,339 average rate this year. Most health insurers raise 2016 Florida Obamacare rates

Premiums for most health insurance policies sold on the federal exchange are increasing for Floridians this year, but state regulators used new authority to negotiate lower rates so the hikes aren’t as big as they could have been, according to filings released Wednesday by the Office of Insurance Regulation. Adams Street fixture Colodny Fass brought in an estimated $735,000 during the most recent reporting quarter, according to recently submitted lobbying compensation reports. Colodny’s single largest contract was for executive branch lobbying on behalf of WellCare Health Plans –– the Tampa-based Medicaid and Medicare coordinators paid between $30,000-$39,999 to the firm between April 1 and June 30, plus another approximately $25,000 for legislative representation, for a total of some $60,000 all told.
