Bob Gualtieri tops $62,000 in January from donors for sheriff re-election bid

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Despite lacking any formidable opponent, Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri doesn’t appear to be taking any chances in his re-election bid. Gualtieri raised more than $62,000 in January bringing his total campaign account to about $72,000. Gualtieri’s only filed opponent, James McLynas, has not raised a dime. Gualtieri’s fundraising haul came mostly from large contributions. More than $30,000 of his January total came from maximum $1,000 contributions. That includes several in the law enforcement and legal field. Former Pinellas County…

Mike Twitty retains fundraising lead over Jim Frishe for Pinellas Property Appraiser

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

In what so far is the richest race among 2016 Pinellas County public office candidates, property appraiser hopeful Mike Twitty now has a $50,000 fundraising lead over his lone opponent, Jim Frishe. To date, Twitty has raised nearly $86,000, while Frishe has pulled in close to $36,000. However, the Supervisor of Elections’ October finance reports show a month where the two candidate’s fundraising efforts were a little closer than their overall totals might suggest. Twitty – a 48-year-old Republican and political newcomer with 25-years of…

Of the two candidates filed to run for Pinellas County Property Appraiser, only one kicked off his 2016 election campaign with a jam session: Mike Twitty. He also happens to be the lone candidate Pam Dubov, Pinellas’ current Property Appraiser, has chosen to endorse as her successor. “Mike is a business man,” said Dubov of Twitty at his Thursday night campaign kick-off party. “Mike has been responsible for running a business that has to make payroll, that has to live within…

A second Republican has jumped into the ring to run for Pinellas County property appraiser. Innisbrook has a chronic tax dispute problem

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

No one wants to pay taxes, but surely few have gone to such extensive lengths as owners of the Innisbrook Golf Course and Resort in Palm Harbor to avoid paying them. Or at least all of them. Owners of the posh members-only style property have been fighting tax bills since 1998. Between the first dispute until 2002 Innisbrook owners owed $2.2 million in back taxes they refused to pay because, they argued, then Property Appraiser Jim Smith over-appraised the property.…

Former state Rep. Jim Frishe is officially in the race for Pinellas County property appraiser. Frishe filed paperwork to run with the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections last week. “One of my neighbors who works at the office told me that Pam was not seeking re-election and that nobody on the senior staff wanted it and he said I should think about it because he thought I’d do a good job,” Frishe said about his decision to run. Frishe seeks…
