Mayors ask Pinellas to reconsider Sunday morning alcohol sales ban

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Some Pinellas mayors want the Pinellas County Commission to relax its ban on selling alcohol before 11 a.m. on Sundays. Allowing sales earlier in the day, they say, is a matter of smart economics, a sign of a progressive region, and a tourist-friendly idea. ā€œIn our minds, it’s just sort of a leftover law that doesn’t have any use anymore,ā€ said R.B. Charlie Justice begins to close fundraising gap in race against Mike Mikurak

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

February fundraising in the only competitive Pinellas County Commission race was fairly lackluster. With $4,225 coming in during the month, Justice outraised Mikurak by nearly double this report. Mikurak raised $2,695. But the difference didn’t put much of a dent into Mikurak’s fundraising head start. The Republican has raised nearly $74,000 compared to Justice who has raised less than $30,000. Justice pulled…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Mike Mikurak has outraised his opponent Charlie Justice more than three to one in his race to unseat the current Commission chair. Mikurak has raised more than $73,000 compared to Justice’s $24,000. In January alone Mikurak nearly doubled Justice’s fundraising totals. Mikurak’s fundraising success is likely the result of a Republican push to re-gain a majority on Commission. Pat Gerard’s election in 2014 replacing Norm Roche gave Democrats a majority for the first time in 50 years. The Pinellas County…
