Love it or hate it, the Pier has been quite the muse

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Saintpetersblog reported earlier this month on two oddly familiar pieces of artwork. One, drawn more than 30 years ago, showed the Pier first with a tornado touching down on its rooftop and then, in another, with an alien space craft above it. More recently, pro-Destination St. Pete Pier groups and supporters have been posting a graphic depicting the Pier as some sort of robotic creature with long legs shooting lasers at visitors. As this reporter pointed out in previous reports, that…

Did you know the Pier was the source of a viral UFO conspiracy?

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

The St. Pete Pier is the main theme of an international Internet sensation called “Box of Crazy.” And to non-UFO chasers and conspiracy theorists, it is, indeed, pretty darn crazy. A man allegedly found a worn and tired box sitting next to a dumpster in Ashville, N.C., in 2008. Inside were a series of interesting drawings of maps, mythical beings and, yes, the inverted pyramid. The contents of the box were later uploaded to the popular news-sharing site Reddit, where…

St. Pete voters overwhelmingly think the city should place a referendum on the ballot to pick a new Pier, according to a new survey from St. Pete Polls.
