Mendee Ligon withdraws from Pinellas school board race, Lew Williams considering a run

From The Gradebook: St. Petersburg dentist Mendee Ligon announced today she is withdrawing from the District 2, at large race, less than two weeks after sheĀ filed. InĀ a press release, she cited personal reasons, noting that her mother has become extremely ill. “My desire to serve the children and parents in Pinellas County is strong; however, my need to be there for my mother is stronger,” she said in the release. — Separately, I’m hearing former area supeintendent Lew Williams isĀ definitelyĀ running.

Pinellas School Board member Mary Brown won’t seek re-election

Mary Brown, a two-term incumbent on the Pinellas County School Board, announced Monday she will not seek re-election. “I think you reach a point where you realize you’ve truly given it your all,” Brown, 74, told theĀ St. Petersburg Times. “Now it’s time for others to step up to the plate and jump in and see what they can do to help.” Continue reading here.
