Republican Senate leaders raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in run up to primary elections

Top Senate Republicans raised brought in big hauls through their political committees over the past two weeks according to newly filed finance reports. Between Aug. 13 and Aug. 25, Fort Meyers Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto brought in $142,500 through her “Protect Florida Families” committee, including $50,000 checks from Trilby Sen. Wilton Simpson’s “Jobs for Florida” committee and Sen. Six years out, the House Speaker race for 2022-2024 is already heating up. First-term Jacksonville Republican Rep. Paul Renner, the early frontrunner in the contest has already raised more than $550,000 for his committee, “Florida Foundation for Liberty,” and has been using that money to spread his influence among the class of 2016.
