I was hard on myself. And I know that it’s not…

Rays’ Kevin Kiermaier wants to be an everyday starter for Rays

in Sports/Top Headlines by

Kevin Kiermaier returned home this week. He intends to stay. For Kiermaier, of course, home is center field. He wants to stay there, Kiermaier told reporters as he showed up for spring training. Kiermaier, the gold-glove winner for the Tampa Bay Rays, said he wants to play 155 games this year. For Kiermaier, that means he has to do a better job of hitting against lefthanders (he hit only .231 last year). “I know I can hit lefties,” he said.…

For now, Rays should pass on shortstop Ian Desmond

in Sports/Top Headlines by

On another team, in another town, Ian Desmond might make perfect sense. Here, it makes none. Oh, you can see the temptation. Why, he’s a veteran shortstop, and the Rays could certainly use one of those rather than bet all of their chips on Brad Miller. The Rays are a team about bargains, and these days, Desmond seems like one of those. They also value run prevention, and Desmond would help save a few of those. So why shouldn’t the…
