St. Pete Pier survey data shows slight growth in “Build a damn Pier” mentality

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Polls can tell a lot about elections and public perception of various topics. Or they can muddy the water. Sometimes, even, they can shape the conversation. When a candidate polls well, supporters are likely to share that information. When their candidate polls poorly, the data tends to get buried. That trend shows how valuable polling can be. But the city is ignoring key data provided by one outside company about the public’s perception of three designs for a new St.…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

A new St. Pete Polls survey released overnight shows that if St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman’s Pier Selection Committee does not choose the most popular pier design from a recent survey conducted by the city, the City Council should reject that choice. In a letter to the Pier Selection Committee, City Council and the mayor last month, St. Pete resident and Pier activist Bill Ballard asserted City Council could reject whatever ranking is…

In alternate universe of St. Pete Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Pier would already be gone

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Imagine a world where Bob Buckhorn is the mayor of St. Pete, not Tampa. According to his version of that parallel universe, the Pier as it exists today would not be there. If that were the case, the rampant bickering among inverted-pyramid-loving activists and city leaders trying to figure out what in the bejesus to do about this longstanding dilemma wouldn’t really be a thing. Sure there’d be a bunch of pissed off activists complaining they didn’t have a say…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete Mayor Rick Kriseman urged City Council to respect the city’s Pier process and let it work. “Perhaps the public just wants their elected officials to do what they elected them to do – to build a damn Pier,” Kriseman said. That pretty much summed up the message during Kriseman’s 20 minutes before council members. “Build a damn Pier.” Council scheduled a Pier update for Kriseman to issue during its Thursday meeting. In his update, Kriseman took a trip down…
