Not much news in the Times story about the restraining order being lifted against Deveron Gibbons. I mean, nothing that I hadn’t already written about here. Gibbons’ girlfriend, Rita Wesley, who I know to be a strong, charming woman, says: “It’s a personal, private matter,” Wesley said. “It has been resolved and I’m satisfied with the result.” Poor Rita. Ask any domestic abuse counselor and they’ll tell you the first restraining order filed is often not the last.

Word coming out of the Pinellas Courthouse is that Deveron Gibbons’ girlfriend Rita Wesley has successfully petitioned to have the temporary restraining order against Gibbons withdrawn. Wesley’s actions now leave a lot of questions unanswered, such as did Deveron really try to run her over..is she still pregnant…why did she decide to have the restraining order lifted? As much as Deveron will suggest otherwise, the damage to his reputation is already done. This incident certainly didn’t bolster his already fledgling…

This is all from Michael Van Sickler. I am posting in entirety because it is not in print yet and I don’t want it to get “lost”: An ex-girlfriend of former St. Petersburg mayoral candidate Deveron Gibbons is alleging that he has threatened to harm her and, earlier this month, tried to run her off the road. Rita Wesley, 41, is seeking a court injunction that would keep Gibbons 500 feet from her home and 100 feet from her car.…
