The Club for Growth — the D.C.-based conservative advocacy group focused on cutting taxes and other economic issues — is for the first time in its 16-year history calling on its members to donate to a presidential campaign. But they’re not being exclusive, announcing that there are five of the 17 candidates in the GOP presidential race that they will bundle campaign contributions for — Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Rand Paul and Scott Walker. in 2017/Top Headlines by

The always active Ron DeSantis for Senate press shop was working again on Monday, promoting the Ponte Vedra Republican’s appearance at Erick Erickson’s Red State Gathering (where he was endorsed for Senate by the conservative commentator), then dissing Democratic Senate candidate and fellow U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson in emails. During his Red State speech, DeSantis said a number of things that his outreach operation thought noteworthy, such as his assertion that “the Democrats, really have no interest, at all, in being good stewards of our American…

David Jolly strikes back at conservative critics

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Though there is no clear early favorite in the Republican race for U.S. Senate next year in Florida, Pinellas County U.S. Rep. David Jolly has broken through enough to top some recent polls. Being based in the Tampa Bay area is also a plus going into next year’s primary, as it’s home to roughly a quarter of the state’s GOP voting bloc. And while his record is solidly conservative, he’s certainly no Tea Partier, and wouldn’t have been elected in last year’s special…

As a former Navy officer, I know Ron shares my conviction that providing for…

Orlando-based entrepreneur Todd Wilcox says that it was around April of last year that he first thought about the possibilities of running for U.S. Senate, a considerable feat to undertake for a lifelong nonpolitician in the nation’s third-largest state. He didn’t go into exploratory mode until this past April, though, after  Marco Rubio made it official that he wouldn’t be running for re-election to his seat, and the presumptive GOP front-runner to replace him, Jeff Atwater, stunned the Florida political world…

Mitch Perry Report for 7.29.15 — Kathy Castor goes all the way on Cuba

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Although it’s dubious whether legislation expanding travel opportunities for Americans to go to Cuba will get through the Congress this year, Kathy Castor is pushing even further. The Tampa Bay area Democrat announced on Tuesday that along with Minnesota Republican Tom Emmer, she was introducing the Cuba Trade Act of 2015 (HR3238). The bill  would end the 54-year-old Cuban embargo and allow for businesses in the private sector to trade freely with Cuba, while prohibiting taxpayer funds to be used on…
