Ron DeSantis wants Obama to remove IRS commissioner — or else

in 2017/Top Headlines by

Jacksonville area GOP U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis says President Obama needs to fire IRS Commissioner  Josh Koskinen — and says if he fails to do so, Congress should impeach Koskinen. In an op-ed co-written in The Wall Street Journal with Ohio GOP U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan on Tuesday, the duo say that since Koskinen replaced acting Commissioner Daniel Werfel in 2013, he “has failed the American people by frustrating Congress’s attempts to ascertain the truth.” The reason for their ire is what they say has been a dereliction…

Alan Grayson & Patrick Murphy in a virtual tie in new Dem Senate poll

in 2017/Top Headlines by

The Democratic U.S. Senate race in Florida is a statistical tie, some 13 months before the primary election, according to a new poll. Orlando U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson gets 33 percent and Jupiter U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy 32 percent in the Mason-Dixon Polling & Research survey published this morning in POLITICO by reporter Marc Caputo. That’s good news for Grayson, whose stock has risen by 19 percentage points since the two candidates were polled by Mason-Dixon in April. Murphy’s numbers were up also, from 22 to 32…

Mitch Perry Report for 7.24.15 — Scary movies

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Happy Friday, everyone. I was going to write about another subject for today, but it feels a bit trivial compared to the big headline of the morning. I know that the overwhelming majority of gun owners in America are responsible. But even if there’s only a tiny, tiny percentage of people who are irresponsible with guns in this country (of which there are reportedly around 300 million floating around), it’s a problem. This morning Americans are awakening to yet another gun shooting…

in Top Headlines by

I was going to opine on John Kasich entering the GOP presidential contest this morning, but let’s get to that tomorrow. Instead, let’s talk about the Florida U.S. Senate race, now that David Jolly is officially in the race, along with U.S. Ron DeSantis, Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera and retired CIA contractor Todd Wilcox. Lately the conventional wisdom from at least two Florida political reporters/analysts is that with such a relatively unknown field, former Central Florida U.S. Rep. Bill McCollum could be viable if…

Florida Congressman David Jolly announced Monday that he’s running for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Marco Rubio, who is running for president, and former Gov. Charlie Crist said he’s eyeing Jolly’s seat. Jolly, a Republican who was elected to Congress in the spring of 2014, made the announcement to the media Monday morning. He was scheduled to hold a campaign rally later in the day. After the announcement, Crist posted on Facebook and tweeted that he will run…

David Jolly reacts to conservative criticism of his record

in 2017/Top Headlines by

A close observation of Pinellas County Congressman David Jolly‘s record in the House indicates that despite the occasional pragmatic vote (he does represent a moderate district in Congress after all), nobody would accuse him of being a liberal. Well, almost no one. Today the Club for Growth, an economic conservative political group, came out with a statement blasting the newest entrant into the GOP Senate 2016 race, with their president, David McIntosh calling Jolly, “a big-spending liberal and former lobbyist who…
