Mitch Perry Report for 10.10.16 — Shock and Awe

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Happy Columbus Day, for those few of you who actually get to observe (i.e. take off) the federal holiday. And a simple request today? Can we just end this sad presidential election now and not wait the remaining 29 days? Well, hardly anyone has voted, so that won’t work. Nevertheless, that presidential debate Sunday night — specifically the first 30 minutes, were unbelievably sad and depressing. Exciting? Yeah, like waiting for a car crash to happen. Okay, where is this race…

Rena Frazier not interested in Ross Spano’s pledge to run a clean campaign in their HD 59 race

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Earlier this week, Dover Republican Ross Spano reached out to his Democratic challenger in the House District 59 race, Brandon Democrat Rena Frazier, requesting she sign a pledge he had drawn up calling for the two to promise to run a clean campaign in the last month of the election. Frazier didn’t respond, and in an email sent to FloridaPolitics, calls the pledge a political game that she’s not interested in playing. “While my opponent may be used to political games, which I’m quite certain this…

Mitch Perry Report for 10.5.16 — Whipping out that thing. Again.

Well, that was unpleasant. Before last night’s vice-presidential debate from Farmville, Virginia, the conventional wisdom amongst the pundit class was that Donald Trump would “sink” Mike Pence, as he’d have to contend with all of the many, many provocative comments made by the GOP nominee, both during this year-and-half-long campaign, but also going back decades. It didn’t exactly turn out that way, did it? True, Pence dealt with the recitation of some of Trump’s greatest hits as recounted by Tim Kaine by…

Mitch Perry Report for 9.27.16 – The ‘what difference does it make?’ debate

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Was it as good as you hoped it would be, America? For months, people have talked about how they could not wait to watch Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump battle it out in their first presidential debate. We all know that excitement wasn’t because of Clinton’s sterling debate style. No, it was because of the unknown about how The Donald would perform. And … ? Let’s put it this way: Kellyanne Conway, Trump’s campaign manager, just said on MSNBC this morning that Clinton failed to deliver…

Ross Spano feels confident about challenge to retain his HD 59 seat in Hillsborough County

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

With this being a presidential election year, when Democrats historically show up in greater numbers at the polls, the Florida Democratic Party is targeting several key legislative races in Hillsborough County which they hope to flip from red to blue. One of them is the House District 59 seat in Eastern Hillsborough County currently held by Dover Republican Ross Spano, who narrowly defeated Democrat Gail Gottlieb by just 1.6 percent in 2012, the same year that Barack Obama once again won Hillsborough County. In the 2014 election when Obama wasn’t on the…
