SP Preservation ‘summit’ for candidates

The mayoral candidates will attend a “Summit” sponsored by Saint Petersburg Preservation on Wednesday, July 29th, 7PM, tentatively scheduled for the Historic Pennsylvania Hotel, 300 4th Street North. The candidates will hear brief presentations from Saint Petersburg Preservation on top preservation issues and programs. From SPP prez Will Michaels: I am pleased to report the Community Preservation Commission on April 17 approved the landmarking of St. Peter’s Cathedral and certification of transferable development rights for both St. Peter’s and the adjacent First Baptist Church property. Will Michaels, a well-liked, well-respected activist in St. Petersburg, has decided not to run for the City Council seat being vacated by Jamie Bennett. “Kathy and I have given it a great deal of consideration and have decided this is not a good fit for me at this time. I will continue to participate in voluntary community activities such as CONA, the Bahama Shores Neighborhood Association, Saint Petersburg Preservation, the Woodson Museum, and the St. Petersburg Museum of History.”
