Democrat Dan Fiorini files for open HD 70 seat in Pinellas

A fourth candidate has filed to run for House District 70, currently held by termed-out St. Petersburg Democrat Darryl Rouson. Business owner Dan Fiorini filed on Friday to run as a Democrat, setting up a primary against St. Petersburg City Commissioner Wengay Newton, who entered the race in October. Republican activist and perpetual candidate Sharon Russ filed to run for the heavily Democratic House District 70 seat held by termed-out state Rep. Daryl Rouson. Russ is no stranger to politics, at least in the Pinellas County portion of the district: she ran for St. Petersburg mayor in 2009 and challenged Karl Nurse for City Council in 2013, but her campaigns nosedived. Jim Sebesta is NOT in the Mayor’s race

There was a mention on the Times’ Bay Buzz blog that former Senator Jim Sebesta had picked up the candidacy paperwork to run for Mayor of St. Pete. I was just on the phone with the city clerk’s office and they state that he has not, repeat has not, picked up the candidacy paperwork. For the record, the residents that have done so are: Deveron Gibbons, Paul Congemy, Sharon Russ and Michael Santo.
