Bob Buckhorn, Rick Kriseman to deliver lively State of the Bay on Friday

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Neighboring Mayors Bob Buckhorn and Rick Kriseman will deliver a State of the Bay address at the Suncoast Tiger Bay Club luncheon at the St. Pete Yacht Club in downtown on Friday. The two are likely to tout their respective wins in both Tampa and St. Pete. For Kriseman that means a demolished Pier, a thriving downtown, several key steps in stamping out poverty in South St. Pete and, most likely by then, a new deal with the Tampa Bay Rays. For Buckhorn, there’s the mostly…

The St. Joe Company, a Florida real estate developer, has already staked its claim to the name Pier Park. The company developed a mixed use area of land in Panama…

After months of writing about all the criticism thrust at St. Pete officials regarding the Pier, the unthinkable has finally happened. The resoundingly critical “WOW the Lens SUCKS” Facebook page finally has some praise. “Update. After checking Squaremouth’s Pier cams, they now have an FAA approved light on the remaining core column. Kudos!” It’s perhaps the first time commenters on that site have had anything nice to say at all about the city and its Pier and represents what hopefully…

No bids for Pier Park restaurant brings more Pier Park criticism

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

A bidding process for a restaurant located in the Pier Park design yielded not a single interested party. Not a single restaurateur submitted a request for proposal by Thursday’s 1 p.m. deadline. The Tampa Bay Times reports the city is downplaying the lack of initial interest. “It’s early,” St. Pete director of development coordination Chris Ballestra told the Times. “This would go in a project that won’t open until 2018.” He said he wasn’t surprised the two planned spaces failed to draw interest right…
