St. Pete to purchase “critical buffer zone” for Boyd Hill Nature Preserve

St. Pete is buying a nearly 35-acre sliver of land from the St. Petersburg Country Club to expand the Boyd Hill Nature Preserve. Two St. Pete City Council candidates face fines for turning in campaign finance reports late

Two candidates for St. Pete City Council did not file the latest required campaign treasurer’s reports by the deadline that passed Friday. The City Clerk’s office received reports from District 7 candidate Lewis Stephens on Tuesday and from District 5 candidate Phillip Garrett on Monday. St. Pete City Council candidate Will Newton has surged ahead of the pack with cash on hand numbers based on the most recent campaign finance reports filed with the city. Between July 1 and July 19 Newton raised nearly $11,000, bringing his total contributions to date to more than $13,000. Those numbers aren’t quite as impressive when compared to Lisa Wheeler-Brown’s total contributions, which are more than $25,000.
