Rowdies fall 1-0 on Union’s late goal in exhibition opener

The Tampa Bay Rowdies started play in their Suncoast Invitational – part of their preseason – in good fashion Saturday night. The Rowdies lost, 1-0, to the Philadelphia Union of the MLS. The Union scored its only goal after coach Stuart Campbell pulled many of his starters, leaving the team exposed for a breakaway goal by Derrick Jones in the 73rd minute. Rowdies face difficult MLS schedule in Suncoast Invitational

The Tampa Bay Rowdies are serious about joining the MLS. So serious, in fact, they’re giving themselves a taste during the 2017 Suncoast Invitational. The Rowdies are in a field with five MSL teams, including league runner-up Toronto. Montreal was the Eastern Conference runner-up. In addition, the tournament includes D.C.
