SWIFTMUD adopts tax rate for coming fiscal year

The Southwest Florida Water Management District has adopted a tax rate for the 2016-17 fiscal year that’s about 4.9 percent lower than the current rate. The proposed rate for the new fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1, is about 33 cents per thousand dollars of assessed, taxable value. Swiftmud appoints new executive director

Brian Armstrong was appointed executive director of the Southwest Florida Water Management District during the agency’s Tuesday board meeting. “I’m truly humbled that I have the opportunity to lead such a talented staff,” Armstrong said. Armstrong will succeed Robert Beltran who announced his resignation earlier this month. Beltran, who has been Swiftmud’s executive director since September 2013, is leaving to go back to the private sector. He will stay temporarily at Swiftmud to help with the transition.
