Charlie Crist moving his campaign HQs back to the ‘burg

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

William March is reporting that Charlie Crist is moving his campaign headquarters from Tallahassee to the Tampa Bay area, he just announced over Twitter. There were no details, but it seems likely the location will be in Crist’s hometown, St. Petersburg. Asked when it might happen, Crist’s Hillsborough county co-chairman Greg Truax said he has no details either, but figures it will be “soon.” The move isn’t too surprising. On Thursday, Charlie Crist needed to deliver the Speech of His Life when announced he was dropping out of the GOP primary to run with No Party Affiliation. The entire political world was watching.  TV trucks were backed up along Beach Drive.  CNN’s Candy Crowley was ready to go live to The Situation Room. Chris Matthews wanted to lead off Hardball with a shot from St. Pete. But when five o’clock struck, the Governor was nowhere to be found.  Michelle…

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

I imagine a political reporter could just about go mad thinking about all of the ramifications of Charlie Crist’s decision to drop out out of the GOP primary and run for the U.S. Senate with No Party Affiliation. When the ABC Coalition of business and civic leaders completed more than a year’s study of baseball alternatives, Mayor Bill Foster deemed the findings too hot to handle.  Well not for the Tigers!  Craig Sher of the Coalition will enter the den and walk us through the options and take your questions.  What will it take to keep the Rays in St. Petersburg?  In Pinellas County? Washington Post: For Charlie Crist, dark days in the Sunshine State primary

in Statewide/The Bay and the 'Burg by

It was precisely the sort of event that Gov. Charlie Crist loves: a nonpartisan, non-ideological chance to boost Florida, its people and its weather. Yet it was also a moment rooted in partisanship: a news conference on Tuesday capping an effort by leaders from around Tampa Bay to persuade Republicans to bring their national convention here in 2012. With Crist in a tough Republican primary for a U.S. Senate seat, this would have been the perfect occasion for tossing some…
