Martin Dyckman: By electing pro-gun politicians, we are the ally of homegrown terrorists

in 2017/Top Headlines by

What fools we are.  What willful, stubborn, persistent, incurable fools. Americans submit by the millions to the Transportation Security Administration’s multiple indignities and inconveniences. The TSA will cost us $5.1 billion this year. We’ll fill its trash barrels with tons of cosmetics, lotions and bottled water that we can’t carry on board. This is in the hope of preventing terrorists from committing more mass murders, such as those of September 11, 2001. And there haven’t been any more in that…

At the White House, President Barack Obama said there is no “specific and credible” intelligence indicating a plot against the U.S. and assured anxious Americans: “While the threat of terrorism is a troubling reality of our age, we are both equipped to prevent attacks and we…

Bucs want ability to move a second home game out of Tampa

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The Tampa Bay Bucs want a nicer stadium. Also, they want  the right to play more games away from it. Among the sticking points for a stadium upgrade – one that was submitted only two weeks ago – would be the right to play a second game each season away from Raymond James Stadium. As it is, the Bucs have the right to take an extra game to a neutral site – overseas, perhaps – as it did with its…

PSTA in small crowd of prestigious award winners

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Pinellas County’s public transportation agency is one of only three in the nation to receive the Transportation Security Administration’s Gold Standard award more than once. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority also won the award last year. “It takes a lot of hard work to win this award and it’s reflective of the dedication of your agency,” said TSA Director of Surface Transportation Division Sonia Proctor during a PSTA board meeting Wednesday. PSTA was one of 137 agencies to apply for…
