Armed Forces History Museum to close

Saying it can no longer afford to stay open, the Armed Forces History Museum announced Wednesday that it is closing. It will shut its doors for the last time Jan. 29 at 4 p.m. The museum was the brainchild of the late John J. Piazza, Sr. who founded it on Aug. 16, 2008. He stocked it with military memorabilia ranging from grenades to tanks that he had collected over 55 years. The museum won many awards and was critically acclaimed.…

Deputies follow as rally protesting black girls’ deaths moves from mall to Pinellas Sheriff’s Office

A rally to highlight to point out the injustices faced by black girls, particularly to the girls who drowned in a stolen car in a cemetery pond last month, got the attention of Pinellas deputies and Largo police Thursday. Rally participants said the deputies threatened to arrest them although no arrests were made. Instead, the rally moved from Largo Mall to the nearby Sheriff’s Office, 10750 Ulmerton Road, where deputies let them stay for a few minutes before herding them…

FDOT officials bring expressway plans to Pinellas

Florida Department of Transportation officials will be on hand 5 to 7 Thursday evening to answer questions and present the Gateway Expressway project to residents. The meeting will be at the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority’s administration building located at 3201 Scherer Drive, St. Petersburg. The location is appropriate considering it’s just about ground zero for the project set to begin in 2017 when getting from South St. Pete or mid-Pinellas to North County will start getting a whole lot quicker.…
