About two-thirds (67 percent) of self-identified registered voters believe Florida should move to an open primary system, according to a new USF-Nielsen Sunshine State Survey. A federal court judge has extended Florida’s voter registration deadline. In a court order Monday, District Court Judge Mark E. Walker directed the state’s top elections official to extend the voter registration deadline to 5 p.m. Wednesday. The one-day extension comes just one day after the Florida Democratic Party sued Gov. With one day still left to register for the Nov. 8 election, mail ballots have started returning to the Pinellas Supervisor of Elections Office. As of Monday morning, 6,187 mail ballots had been returned. Of those, 2,522 were from Democratic voters and 2,418 were from Republicans. The remaining 1,247 were from voters with no party affiliation or who are registered to a third party.
