Will Newton continues to widen fundraising gap in race against Lisa Wheeler-Brown

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete City Council candidate Will Newton has outraised his opponent by nearly $10,000. That’s after outraising her by nearly $1,200 during the latest reporting period between October 5 and 18. So far, Newton has raked in more than $62,000 since announcing his candidacy in June. Lisa Wheeler-Brown has raised $55,634 even though she entered the race six months before him. The difference lies in the lopsided prevalence in high-dollar contributions. Newton has continuously raked in money from outside groups. During…

Steve Kornell, Will Newton still plagued by Rays issue in City Council race

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

Once again the Tampa Bay Times is beating the same drum about the Tampa Bay Rays and St. Pete City Council’s votes on how to proceed with a deal that would let the team look outside of St. Pete into Pinellas and Hillsborough counties for an alternative stadium location. The team has been trying for nearly a decade to step outside of its lease to take a gander across the Bay and in other parts of Pinellas. Thursday, City Council…

Tampa Bay Times columnist John Romano threw out a fresh take on the long-neglected conversation involving the Tampa Bay Rays and the team’s tenure at Tropicana Field. This new(ish) tone encourages the Rays to accept one of two deals being considered by City Council. That’s a giant step back from the editorial board’s oft-uttered postulations that the four City Council holdouts on a previous deal were obstructionists sure to bring strife and doom to a city on the rise. The…

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

St. Pete City Council candidate Lisa Wheeler-Brown started a foundation in her slain son’s name following his death in 2008. The Cabretti Wheeler-Fortner Foundation’s mission statement was to “prevent another mother from losing a child.” But there are questions about how much money the foundation brought in and how money was used. Manta.com and several other business and non-profit foundation databases list the foundation as a “club” with an estimated annual revenue of $81,000 with three employees. That information comes…

South Pasadena resident files elections complaint against Lisa Wheeler-Brown

in The Bay and the 'Burg/Top Headlines by

A South Pasadena resident has filed an official complaint with the Florida Elections Commission alleging a flurry of election law violations against St. Pete City Council candidate Lisa Wheeler-Brown. In the complaint acquired by SaintPetersblog, James Donelon accuses Wheeler-Brown of violating at least three sections of Florida’s election law, including use of campaign funds, accuracy of reports and petty cash funds allowed.
