Tampa Bay Rowdies 2016 home opener set for April 2

in Sports/Top Headlines by

The Tampa Bay Rowdies have released the club’s 2016 schedule, and it starts with an April 2 match at Al Lang Stadium against the Indy Eleven.

The NASL’s league format will be the same as last year. The Spring Season, a single round robin, will be 10 matches long and played between April 2 and June 11. Then the Fall Season, a double round robin, will be 22 matches long and begin on July 2 with the final matches of the regular season played on Oct. 29.

Three new teams are also set to make their NASL debuts in 2016: the Miami FC, Rayo Oklahoma City and Puerto Rico FC.

Aside from the Rowdies’ home opener against the Indy Eleven, Tampa Bay will also have Spring Season home matches against FC Edmonton on April 16, the Carolina RailHawks on April 23, Rayo OKC on May 14, and Ottawa Fury FC on June 4.

The Rowdies will also take on all three the other Florida NASL teams during the Spring Season, though all will be road matches.

On April 9, the Rowdies will take on Miami FC. On April 30, it’ll be the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. Then on June 11 Jacksonville Armada FC will host the Rowdies for the final match of the Spring Season.

With three of the club’s five Spring Season road matches in-state, the Rowdies will have to fly just twice for matches: once to play the New York Cosmos and once to play Minnesota United FC. The matches will be back-to-back, on May 21 and 28.

Then, after a three-week summer break, Tampa Bay will start the Fall Season at home against Jacksonville Armada FC on July 2.

Other key Fall Season home games include matches against the New York Cosmos on July 23, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Aug. 6, Carmelo Anthony’s Puerto Rico FC on Sept. 10, and Miami FC on Oct. 1.

The Rowdies will make their first trip up to Oklahoma City to face NASL newcomers Rayo OKC on July 27 as part of a two-match swing that also includes Tommy Heinemann’s return to Ottawa on July 30.

Tampa Bay will also visit Puerto Rico FC on July 16.

The Rowdies’ Fall Season closer will be in Jacksonville on Oct. 29.

Rowdies 2016 season ticket packages start at $170 and include all 16 regular season matches, as well as complimentary tickets to Tampa Bay’s preseason match against D.C. United at Al Lang Stadium on Feb. 13.
