Congress signed off on $50 million for security for next year’s Republican National Convention in Tampa. The Tampa Tribune reported via The News Service of Florida on Friday that the money for the security was part of a $182 billion stopgap “minibus” bill that funds the government into next month and provides spending authority for several agencies for next year. The money will pay for more than 4,000 extra law enforcement and security personnel, as well as extra equipment, the Tribune reported. Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn had said there was no way the city could hold the convention without the financial help.
