Tampa Tribune offering 80% off subscription via Groupon; why not just give it away?

Through Groupon, the Tampa Tribune is offering a discount amounting to 80% off the regular price.

At that price, why not just give away the newspaper for free?

I’m serious.  Instead of trying to collect the few dollars left over after the discount (as well as whatever Groupon takes), why not just print off two or three hundred thousand copies of the Tribune, bag ’em up and deliver them to every home in Tampa?

In fact, the Tribune should print just enough copies for it to be able to brag that it has a bigger circulation than the Tampa Bay Times.

(And don’t feel guilty about giving it away, Tribbies.  Isn’t the Times boosting its circulation numbers by giving away *tbt?)
