Texas Congressman Joaquin Castro will visit the Sunshine State this weekend to pitch in for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist in central Florida.
Castro, the freshman representative from San Antonio, will meet volunteers and supporters today in Kissimmee, for a neighborhood canvass kickoff in Poinciana, and later meet with students at phone bank in Kissimmee.
Along with his brother, former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, the Mexican American twins are rising young stars in the Democratic Party. Julian and Joaquin, who turned 40 last month, have become two of the most prominent Hispanics in national politics.
Castro’s Neighborhood Canvass Kick-Off event begins 1:15 p.m. at 517 Maricopa Drive; the Kissimmee Phone Bank event begins 2:30 p.m. at the Kissimmee Field Office, 320 Dickson Street.
