The DCCC placed an ad where?

Analysis from the political blog at the News Service of Florida.

Here’s something that you don’t see every day on the political advertising front: The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is running an ad against Republican Congressman Steve Southerland … in the Florida State University student newspaper. The issue is student loans — find more on that here — which explains the venue. The ad is to the right.

And the obligatory statement from DCCC spokesman David Bergstein:

College students absolutely need to know that Congressman Southerland is about to make school more expensive, even while he is subsidizing Big Oil companies to the tune of billions of dollars a year. For the umpteenth time, Congressman Southerland is ignoring the needs of middle class families and standing with corporate special interests – and we urge all the students of Florida State University to sign our petition to keep loan rates low.

Of course, putting ads in a student newspaper is a relatively inexpensive way to put your message out, though how many students will actually see or pay attention to it is another matter. It could also be an effort to keep younger voters, a key part of President Obama’s coalition, engaged in the 2014 battle for control of the House now that the president won’t be appearing on the ballot again.
