The must-read: Jack Latvala says raising revenue should be on the table

Raising new revenue, particularly by closing a loophole on Internet sales tax collections, is something state leaders should consider, Republican Sen. Jack Latvala said at a delegation breakfast in Pinellas County Wednesday. Latvala, of Clearwater, said that lawmakers can’t continue to simply cut the budget and balance it that way without bringing in more money, according to a report on the delegation breakfast by the St. Petersburg Times via The News Service of Florida. “I’ve never seen a business yet that survived and prospered by cutting,” Latvala said, according to the Times. “You have to plan for the future and you have to pay for the things you need to do. And I think our real challenge in Tallahassee this year is going to be whether we cut some more, or whether we finally say, ‘It’s enough, we got to find some ways to enhance the budget so we don’t have to keep doing that.'”
