A real estate executive with ties to the Bush family is challenging U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson.
Carol Platt is an executive with the Osceola County Association of Realtors with longstanding ties with the Bush political family, having worked on campaigns for both George W. and Jeb Bush. She now joins at least two other Republicans for the race for Florida’s 9th congressional district, according to Mark K. Matthews in the Orlando Sentinel. Jorge Bonilla Jr. and Peter Vivaldi have also filed to run against Grayson, one of the most vocal Democrats in the U.S. House.
Replacing Grayson will certainly be a challenge for any Republican. In addition to being a shrewd fundraiser, he also represents the heavily Democratic district of Osceola, Orange and Polk Counties.
“If I am honored to earn enough Republicans’ support in the primary,” Platt said in a statement, “the differences between Congressman Grayson and I will be plentiful in record, views, substance and style.”
